My Experience with Formulate

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, but I’m back with a special review! I was recently contacted by Formulate to test out their custom shampoo & conditioner. First you fill out a survey about your hair concerns and what you’re looking for. Then, their chemist makes your personal formula! I was so excited to try this because I always struggle to find something that consistently works with my flat, fine hair. Formulate is also cruelty free, sulfate free, paraben free and dye free! So, here’s the breakdown of my experience.

My concerns:

  • Flat / Fine hair
  • No volume
  • frizz

Survey Process

The survey process was extremely easy. They ask aa few questions about your hair type, including thickness, curly or straight, natural color and concerns. You can also select your own personal scent, and the scent strength. I personally chose the Green Tea scent, with medium strength. This is a great option for those with scent sensitivity! My concerns were to prevent thing, volumize and control frizz. I was curious to see if they could actually control my frizz and add volume at the same time, these two things do not usually go together.

Before & After

On the left is my hair after 5 day of my regular shampoo (I only wash my hair 1-2 times per week) and the right is after using my Formulate set. As you can see, way more voluminous and still smooth!

Overall I’m very please with personal set! Some sulfate free shampoos don’t lather well or at all, but I was very pleased that there was still a bit of lather with this formula. The conditioner is great for my fine hair, doesn’t weigh it down at all. They were somehow able to address all of my concerns. The scent is so refreshing without being overwhelming. And not to mention, the packaging! It’s so pleasing, very millennial ad also there is brail on each for visually impaired to tell the bottles apart (I love this!) I went in not having any expectations and was so pleasantly surprised. If they get your formula wrong, they will re-do it for you as well.
