My first post on this blog was about my skincare routine. It was not very detailed, and things have changed since then so I thought I would do a full routine today.
Background On My Skin Type
As a teenager, I had amazing skin. I never had breakouts, it wasn’t dry or oily.. pure perfection. Then when I turned 20 everything changed. Adult acne?! What a load of shit. After a few years of experimenting with skin care, I learned that I was breaking out mostly because I had sensitive skin, not acne prone skin. It is also combination / oily in the t zone. So here is step by step what I do morning and night with a few extras and little tips.
Morning
I keep it pretty simple in the mornings. This is my all time favorite cleanser, Purity by Philosophy. This doesn’t really change. It feels like you have a new face when you’re done and works wonders for sensitive skin. This 12 oz size I got on Black Friday for $15! I regret not getting more. I noticed my skin clear up when I started using this because it gives a deep clean, but is still very gentle.
Since I have an oily t-zone, a gel based moisturizer works based. I’ve been using the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel for quite some time. It gives the perfect amount of moisture without being greasy and doesn’t break me out!
The only part of my face that gets dry for me is under my eyes, which is weird. Eye cream is a must for me. It is also good as a preventative measure for anti-aging. I really like the GinZing eye cream from Origins. It is a peach color so it helps with dark circles and to give you a refreshed look in the morning. It typically comes in a little pot but I received this one in an Origins gift set for Christmas.
Night Time
This is probably the best makeup remover I’ve tried! The Clinique Take the day off cleansing balm is a solid that melts when you put it on your face, similar to coconut oil but thicker. It gets nearly all of my makeup off and doesn’t leave any residue behind.
I use the same cleanser at night, only with my Clarisonic. It is important to still cleanse your face even after makeup remover because it doesn’t always get all of your makeup off. I have the original Clarisonic Mia and I use it with the radiance brush head which is for dullness and uneven skin tone. I noticed this one helps a lot with acne marks and blackheads.
I recently started using these toning pads from First Aid Beauty. First Aid Beauty is amazing for sensitive skin. This help even out tone and give you a glowing complexion without making you greasy.
I will use a thicker cream at night, but not too thick because it can clog pores and break me out. I love the High-Potency Night-A-Mins from Origins. It is very refreshing and does not clog pores. I notice if I have an small bumps on my face, they are gone the next morning after using this.
Extras
These products aren’t in my routine every single day, but definitely on a weekly basis.
It is important to exfoliate 1-2 times to week, no matter what your skin type. I use this one from Fresh and I love it! It is target for oilier skin types but it is not over drying in the least. I noticed a huge improvement with my pores after using this for a while.
There are a few different masks that I have in rotation but this is by far my favorite. Lush mask of magnaminty is AMAZING. It does have a slight minty tingle but feels so cooling and refreshing. I didn’t notice much the first time after using until I woke up the next morning and my skin looked astonishing. So glowy and fresh!
If I am going out in the sun, I will mix the BareMinerals Prep Step SPF 50 in with my moisturizer. SPF is important to protect your skin from the early signs of aging.
Extra Tips
I noticed a big difference in my skin when I started drinking lots of water. I shoot for 65-80 ounces per day. I notice if I don’t get enough my skin starts to stress out. Diet also plays a big role. When I have a few cheat days and eat crappy, my skin is the first to notice. Eating lots of veggies and protein is the best for your skin.
As always, leave me a comment with any questions you might have or recommendations.
